Ever since I bought my iPhone4 I’ve been an Instagram fiend. The filters are fun, yes, but you’d be amazed at how your eye changes. You definitely notice the most random things as you walk down the street. You also find irresistible urges to photograph peoples public shame – so far I’ve managed to control said urges, but seriously… what’s wrong with people?

Anyway, I reached 100 instagram photos today and thought I’d commemorate the occasion with a little highlight reel. Hope you enjoy and can relate to the pics :)

What’s my age again?

Recently a friend and fellow blogger wrote a post on how she knows she’s getting older. As hilarious as this list is, I felt compelled to write the top reasons why it’s good to get older. Maybe this urge came from the fact that I’m a year older than her, or maybe I just tire at the sight of all them youngins running amuck. Either way, it’s time we embraced life (no Benjy Buttons around these parts) and realize we’re just aging gracefully.

{ growth }

Top 10 ways I make myself feel better for getting “older”:

  1. While I actually have less time between working, commuting and errands, I manage to accomplish more in a day than when I was younger with less responsibilities.
  2. No matter how awesome a night out partying was, I love a good FULL night sleep. I love not feeling like a complete waste of life at work the next day even more.
  3. The money not spent on pre-drinking booze, cabs, cover, bar booze, more cabs 3 to 4 nights a week really adds up.
  4. I’m convinced the “freshman 15″ myth of college is due, in most part, to late nights of boozing and eating horrible food that you wouldn’t dare ingest when sober and in the daylight.
  5. Yes I wear warm clothing, even if not the coolest or most stylish, and avoid getting sick at all costs.
  6. I never have to ask my parents for money. And if you don’t know how amazing that is you need to grow up.
  7. I wear comfortable shoes to work and change into my heels once I get there. Less pain, no blisters, and I actually save time walking in flats – and we all know how valuable time is in the wee morning hours.
  8. My tax return is a winning lottery ticket compared to when I was younger.
  9. My mom still nags me, but now it’s just endearing :)
  10. And when all else fails to reassure me that older ain’t better: Go downtown or on the subway on a Friday or Saturday night and realize you are no longer THAT GIRL in public.

I go towards the light

Growing up, my family lived modestly. My parents were wonderfully diligent at making sure we had everything we needed, and even surprised us with a few special treats every now and then. However, one thing I never had all my childhood was a beautiful light fixture.

Heartbreaking. I know.

Instead, what did we have? BOOB LIGHTS. Hideous, inappropriate, nipply boob lights!

Whose got your love?

Haaaaappy February 15th!

One sugarless, slowly wilting day after ye olde Valentine’s Day.

I’m not one for celebrating this day with gifts or treats. Personally, I’m more touched when receiving those things on any other non-holiday day; just feels less obligatory, hence more meaningful. I suppose some would say this makes me a cynic, maybe it does, but I think my dear friend “T” over at Full Bellies/Hungry Minds says it best.

There are so many people who spend too much of their time chugging haterade. If anything, let a day dedicated to expressing love offer a break from cynicism and bitterness. I’ve heard people, year after year, spit fury on this day because they believe it’s a day for only couples to visibly and financially love up on each other. I won’t deny that you definitely see more people carrying flowers and heart shaped bags/boxes down the street, but who says love is limited to only one significant other?

What will YOUR super power be?

Have you ever wanted to be a superhero?

To save people from injustice and certain death?

Everyone seems to believe achieving “superhero” status requires super (aka. magical or fictional) powers. Thankfully, everyone is wrong.

Everyone has multiple super powers within them already. Some more than others, but even just one super power is amazing, not to mention life saving.

These powers are our organs and, the moment we become organ donors, we become heroes for the lives we have chosen to save.
